Please Respect My Religion
I was shocked to read from “The Nut Graph” that the journalists from the magazine called “Al Islam” have gone undercover into Catholic churches to spy on the Catholic Sunday Mass. They were on a mission to investigate the baseless rumour that the Catholic Church in Malaysia has been unscrupulously converting Muslim undergraduates.
It was indeed appalling that these ignorant journalists have gone forward to receive the Holy Communion (despite the reminder that the Holy Communion is reserved for Catholics only), and later spat the Body of Christ out in order to take pictures for the publication of their magazine. This was sacrilegious, totally provoking and unacceptable.
I am truly a Malaysian. Now, I wonder how many more narrow-minded Malaysians out there, who are feeling insecure with their own position, are constantly wary of other religious groups. Why can we not live together without much suspicion and fear? How have I threatened you?
After 50 over years Malaysia has achieved its independence, Malaysia is backtracking on racial and interreligious tolerance. Once again, the education system in Malaysia has failed to promote racial and interreligious understanding. We are so fearful of another religion that we have to spy on them.
Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you. If you do not believe in what I believe, fine; but please do not ridicule my religion. If you feel fearful or suspicious, approach us, talk to us, and ask us. We welcome inter-religious dialogues for we are civilized community.
